Conditions of participation – Street Art of the year 2020

General objectives

Street Art of the Year is an annual competition, initiated by Stichting Kunstweek and executed by De Kunst Collega's B.V. (the Art Colleagues). The goal is not to determine what is the best Street Art in the world since that is very subjective and subject to many variables, but only to establish annually what is the most appreciated Street Art amongst a that participate.

Furthermore the contest wants:

a. to increase the appreciation for street art in general;

b. to increase the (name) awareness of the participating street arts in particular;

c. to enhance that street art becomes a permanent and valued part of art in general.
By registering and participating, you explicitly indicate that you have taken note of the conditions as described below.



By Street Art we mean all 2D and 3D outside art, murals and interventions created for public visibility. Entries that have damaged or will damage property are not allowed and will be disqualified. Entries containing discriminatory or insulting content will also be disqualified.

Participation in Street Art of the Year 2020 ( is open to single artists, duos and crews from anywhere, professionals and amateurs from all corners of the world. It is not allowed to participate with an image by/on behalf of someone else.


Categories and subject

There are two categories in this competition. The participant choses the category himself per artwork. The categories are:

  • Murals, 2D and 3D

  • Interventions


For every category goes that the subject of the Street Art is completely free. Shocking, insulting or offensive content is not allowed.



Until 31st October 2020, artists can upload their own image(s) of street art (maximum 4) for participation on The subject and size of the street art is free (see also Participation above).



Copyright of the work will remain at all times with the street artist. Images will be used strictly in connection to the competition and will not be used for any other marketing purposes other than to promote the contest. Images will not be resold or used by any other third party. If there is a request for such, we will forward that request to the artist via e-mail. The organization is not responsible for the possible publication of art works of the participants by third parties and/or other bodies.


Usage rights

All the work entered in Street Art of the Year can be used only in connection with the competition and not for any other marketing purposes except promoting Street Art of the Year. The participant gives the organization of Street Art of the Year permission to publish the image on the website, in related newsletters, e-mails and in all printed outings of or about the election. The participant does not receive any financial compensation for this and cannot derive any other rights from this.


Registration and participation

Everyone who wants to participate in the Street Art of the Year 2020 competition has to register first. This can only be done by creating a profile on


In principle, a participant can always unsubscribe from participation. Unsubscribing means that the participant's complete profile will be removed from the website, including all works. Unsubscribe must be made in writing via



Participation in Street Art of the Year 2020 is for free.
Moreover each participant receives:
- Publicity for his/her work(s) for the duration of the competition on the website and social media.
- And has to chance to win of our great 

First round professional jury

Between November 1st and 30th 2020, the professional jury will evaluate all entries by giving a grade (digital and anonymous). This will results in 30 nominated art works for the mural category and 30 nominees for the interventions. (It is therefore possible that an artist is ranked as nominee in and awarded in the top 3 of both categories.)


Second round professional jury

Between December 1st and 15th 2020 the professional jury will assemble and decide who the 6 finalist of the murals and interventions are and what the overall winner is.

The professional jury assesses the street artwork on the basis of the following criteria: originality, composition, color and technique.
No correspondence can be entered concerning the jury's verdict.
The winner of Street
 Art of the year 2020 will be announced on December 15th 2020 or shortly after.


Audience votes

From November 1st to November 30th the general public can vote on its favorite work. (See below for more explanation under Voting.) The street artwork that has the most votes is the winner of the Audience Award and will also be announced om December 15th or shortly after.



Voting is only possible via the website from November 1st until November 30th. Everybody can vote on different art works but only 1 vote per artwork (1 vote per e-mail address). This vote has to be confirmed by means of a link sent by e-mail and only counts after activation of that link (for security reasons). Only natural persons can vote.

In case of abuse of the voting the organization can decide to disqualify artists. The organization has built in various safeguards at the front and back of the website to prevent or detect malpractices. For example, multiple votes from the same domain (name) are neither possible nor allowed.



The organization of Street Art of the Year 2020 can at any time make changes to the course of the competition or end the competition, the participant does not derive any rights and/or claims with regard to the course of the Street Art of the Year competition.

In cases not provided for in the terms and conditions, the organization is entitled to decide and act as it sees fit. Works that do not comply with the regulations can be admitted to the website and contest, but are not eligible for the prizes. The Dutch law applies to these conditions of participation.
